Name: Cara He
Year: Senior
Major: Integrative Biology
Position in DULCE: Program Coordinator
Responsibilities: Program coordinators oversee the other coordinators and interns to ensure people are accountable. They keep order, allowing others to complete their tasks efficiently.
Favorite Place to Eat in Berkeley: Great China
Motivation behind joining DULCE: My name is Cara He and I am one of the Program Coordinators for DULCE. I joined DULCE because I wanted to educate myself and others about diabetes. Diabetes is something that affects my family, and I want to knowledgable about this very common disease.

Year: Junior
Major: Chicano Studies
Position in DULCE: Program Coordinator/Finance Coordinator
Responsibilities: Program coordinators oversee the other coordinators and interns to ensure people are accountable. They keep order, allowing others to complete their tasks efficiently. Finance Coordinators complete midyear reports and grants, along with balancing the budget. They make it possible for DULCE to provide nutrition and diabetes information to students and community members.

Motivation behind joining DULCE: I'm a first generation college student from South Central LA. I'm the youngest of two. My sister is two years older and recently graduated from UC Berkeley. I'm a huge sports fan, especially LA teams! I enjoy playing basketball and like to run once in a while. I decided to get involved with DULCE because it focuses on an illness that heavily affects the Latino community, Although diabetes hasn't affected my immediate family, I know that our eating habits put us at great risk of diabetes.

Major: MCB, Public Health
Position in DULCE: Webmaster/Publications
Responsibilities: To ensure that the website remains updated and also create an online presence for DULCE.
Favorite Place to Eat in Berkeley: Montague's Sandwhiches
Motivation behind joining DULCE: Diabetes has always been big in my family; it's something that has affected both my paternal and maternal sides. My doctor already told me that I was genetically at risk, so joining DULCE was a way for me a to get a deeper insight into the disease and see what preventative measures I could take.

Year: Junior
Major: Public Health
Position in DULCE: Outreach Coordinator
Responsibilities: Outreach Coordinators collaborate with The Berkeley Department of Public Health to educate local elementary and middle schools through presentations of nutrition and exercise. This allows us to spread awareness of diabetes to the local commuity and educate students.
Favorite Place to Eat in Berkeley: Crepevine
Motivation behind joining DULCE: I was born in El Salvador and moved to the Bay Area six years ago. I love the work DULCE does and it's Public Health approach. The incidence of diabetes in underserved communities and acknowledging the multiple factors that lead to this condition fuels my passion to prevent it.

Major: Nutritional Sciences Dietetics
Position in DULCE: Administrative Coordinator
Responsibilities: Administrative Coordinators help facilitate the DULCE decal. Decals are student-run democratic education programs at the UC Berkeley. This decal is held in both the fall and spring semesters of the school year. The goal of the decal is to educate students about diabetes and complications associated with the disease.

Motivation behind joining DULCE: I'm Camila, a second-year with a strong passion for nutrition and well-being. I have been interested in keeping myself healthy and helping others improve their lifestyle since I was little, and therefore when I heard about DULCE, I knew it would be a perfect fit for me--I have always wanted to raise awareness of issues that relate to nutrition like diabetes, and therefore I knew instantly that I wanted to be part of the club. I hope to change many people's lives by teaching them of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet and help prevent diabetes as much as possible in the community.
